DAGNY BACKBEAT

Backbeat, the word is on the street that Tromso (and London) artist DAGNY is about to blow away the Scandipop competition with her debut single. Shameful Britpop in-jokes aside, 'Backbeat' could well see this newcomer catapulted right above even the top tier of Norwegian artists making waves in the UK right now, including Emilie Nicolas and Anna of the North. That's how punchy it is. We're heavily reminded strongly of Tove Styrke's sweetly-bratty comeback track, 'Even If I'm Loud It Doesn't Mean I'm Talking to You', as DAGNY chimes, "Pick it up and tell me if you really wanna dance some more," over an infectiously sunny melody. She's got a definite rebellious streak, and can certainly pen a monster pop hook; we're totally sold. You will be too. - DC
